Medical billers and coders work in clinics, hospitals, physicians’ offices, and at home. Medical codes document patient diagnoses and treatments. A job in this career field would include:

• Reading and analyzing patient records
• Determining the correct codes for patient records
• Using codes to bill insurance providers
• Interacting with physicians and assistants
• Keeping track of patient data over multiple visits
• Managing detailed patient information
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and information security
